Abstract

In the domain of Arabic literature the sixth and seventh century
A.H. are generally considered ‘the age of fear of loss’, due to mass
destructions which happened to the Arab world during that time.
The Arabic literature, especially poetry has greatly been affected as
consequence. In that era, Abul Hasan Hazim of Qurtajanna stood
forward to give Arabic Poetry its beauty back. Having influenced
by the great Muslim philosophers e.g. Averroes and Ibn Sina tried
to lift up the moral height through his poetry reforms. Therefore,
the aim of this present article is to underscore the theory he has
introduced to place poetry and morality on the same platform. In
order to do so, the article has first shaded light on his biography in
short and then presented a theoretical and analytical discussion on
the theory he has relied on in giving moral directions to society
through the aesthetics of poetry. As for the major findings of the
article, Hajim was, in his reforms, greatly influenced by Aristotle’s
‘theory of imitation' and the ‘theory of imagination’ introduced by
Muslim philosophers. It is hoped that the students of Arabic
literary theory would be benefited from the article.
