المسرحیة الشعریة لأحمد شوقي : دراسة نقدیة (مجنون لیلی أنموذجا)

Abstract

Ahmed Shawqi (1868-1932) was an Egyptian poet and dramatist
who pioneered the modern Egyptian literary movement and
Arabic poetical drama. He was also known as “The Prince of
Poets” (*+,-./+ ,012). He has written seven plays in the last four
years of his life. Among his plays “Majnun Laila” (780/ 9:;<1)
was known to all as a historical and poetic drama. This article
attempts to study this Poetic Drama in the light of the criticism
and analysis. We find out that Ahmed Shawqi was the first to
enter the real poetic drama in modern Arabic literature and
“Majnun Laila” was on of his famous historical romantic plays.
Shawqi enjoyed artistic freedom in order to draw the general
atmosphere of the story in this play.
