Abstract

Phrases of oath have been extensively used in the Arabic
discourse, so the Arabs gave intense attention to the structure
of these types of phrases. Therefore, this domain exceeded
other syntactic forms for having special regulations that are not
found in other syntactic forms. This article focuses on the
usage of oath phrases that are combination of the verb of oath
and its particles. It also deals with the authenticity of oath
particles and its alteration, the specialty of the oath particles
combined with the thing sworn by. Finally, it shows the
deviation of some of oath particles and the way to deal with
them when they are omitted. Because of having multiple forms
to denote the notion of oath, this paper has tried to classify
them in some categories and also discussed the views of Arab
linguists regarding this matter.
