Abstract

Abu Muhammad Al- Qasim Ibn Ali Ibn Muhammad Ibn Osman
Al -Hariri Al -Basri is one of those who contributed to the
development of Arabic Language and Literature. His
contribution is undeniable, especially in composing ‘Maqamah’,
one of the major branches of Arabic Literature. In fact, he has
turned Maqamah literature into an excellent form of art. He has
accumulated different kinds of ornaments of language including
diverse vocabulary, contemporary proverbs and idioms, simile
and metaphors of Arabic language in his Maqamah. Moreover,
he has also presented humor, fun and advice in it. This article
focuses on the life of Abu Muhammad Al -Qasim Al Hariri,
origin and evolution of Makamah literature, comparative
discussion between the Maqamaat written by Hariri and
Hamdani. This article also describes Hariri’s contribution and
his position among other contemporary poets and literateurs.
