النقد الأدبي الإسلامي عند أبي الحسن عليّ الندوي
Abstract
Islamic Literary Criticism According to Abul Hasan Ali Nadvi
The notion of Islamic literature and criticism started emerging
during the sixties of 20th century as the Egyptian writer Dr.
Najeeb al-Kaylani discussed the same in his book “Afaq al-Adab
al-Islami”. Islamic literary criticism, according to Rabitat al-
Adab al-Islami al-Alamiyya (International League of Islamic
Literature), is the artistic expression that aims at man, life and the
universe according to the Islamic perception. Abul Hasan Ali
Nadvi (1914-1999), as a champion of the Islamic literature and
criticism, tried to introduce Islamic literature and criticism as
guided and directed by Islamic values and principles, whereas
man, life and the universe all are seen through the telescope of
Islam. The Islamic literary criticism must be looked upon as
subservient to the teachings of the religion with certain
objectives that are to improve the quality of man’s life and
provide him with guidelines in order to attain happiness. Since
Islamic literature and criticism are new areas in the vast field of
literature and criticism, this paper mainly attempts to set criteria
for Islamic literature and literary criticism in light of the positive
efforts made by Abul Hasan Ali Nadvi, and tries to elaborate his
viewpoints regarding scope and functions of Islamic Literary
Criticism, literature and commitment, values, qualities of an
Islamic critic, focusing on his works like “Nadarat-fil-Adab” and
“Rawa’iu-Iqbal”, with a special emphasis on Muhammed Iqbal
and Jalaluddin Rumi.
