Cultural heritage is an immensely important factor on which the
very existence of a nation depends. Historical evidences indicate
that cultural heritage is one of the most important pillars on which
a nation stands. It is the foundation upon which a nation’s identity,
status, power and sovereignty depend. Islamic heritage is a
comprehensive concept that encompasses everything related to the
Islamic approach to life and civilization. It is a parameter that
distinguishes a Muslim nation from a non-Muslim national all
times and in all places. It leads to national unity despite all
differences in colors, languages and tribes. After the emergence of
Islam, the Muslims in Bangladesh started to lead their life in
Islamic ways, and resultantly, there has flourished a rich Islamic
heritage here through the ages. However, in recent times the
Bangladeshi Muslims are being influenced by western culture,
customs and their secular teachings. Many of them have
meanwhile started to show a negligent attitude toward Islamic
culture and heritage. This research article focuses on some
influential factors that play a significant role in upholding Islamic
heritage in Bangladesh. This is an analytical article and mostly
follows qualitative research method.
