Allama Zamakhshari(467-538h.) was the greatest scholar and
expositor of the holy Quran. He composed a tafsir entitled “Al-
Kashshaaf ’anHaqa'iq at-Tanzil waUyunul Aqabil fi Uzuhit Ta’bil”
sitting beside the holy Kaaba and completed in 528 Hizria. This
Tafsir is felicitated by all in the world of the illustrations of the holy
Quran due to its miraculous eloquence and copious features. This
paper will present a brief description of the life of Allama
Jamakhshari and short acquaintance of Tafsir al Kashshaf, meaning
Izajul Quran i.e. inimitability of the Holy Quran and the types and
methods of Izajul Quran. There are various aspects of Izajul Quran,
which have been described by the Muslim scholars such as
unmatched comprehensiveness, free of any contradiction, fulfilment
of all its promises and prophesies, the knowledge of unseen world,
excels of all other Arabic language and style and its effect on the
hearts of men. Some Mutazila have described that there is nothing
inimitable in the Quran but it was Allah ‘aversion’ (sarfa) which
prevented the disbelievers from doing so. Jamakhshari disagreed with
this argument, while this contradicts the view of holding the Quran
itself to be a miracle. It is interesting because Jamakhshari was a
believer of Mutazila creed and scribed “Al Kashshaf” on the basis of
the dogma of Mutazilites school of thought. The sources of the article
have been conducted from various books on the Ulumul Quran and
Tafsir specially the tafsir al Kashshaf. The purpose of the article is to
illustrate and highlight the methods and types of the Izajul Quran
composed by Allama Jamakhshari in the Tafsir al Kashshaf.
