الغزل في شعر إلياس قنصل: دراسة تحليلية
Abstract
Elias Consul (1914-1981), a Syrian immigrant poet, was born in
Yabroud, Syria and emigrated to America with his father at his
childhood. After a brief stay in Brazil, South America, he moved to
Argentina with his family. Since his family was underprivileged,
he got engaged in the sale of various goods by ferry. After
receiving his primary education in his hometown Yabroud, he was
no longer able to continue his study. He used to work for his
livelihood during day time and studied different kinds of books at
night. This study helped him to expand the area of his knowledge.
He continued to study poetry and literature and finally started to
publish poetry in some newspapers and magazines. He sketched in
his poems the patriotism, beauty of nature, love to elegance,
respect and love to mother and homage to the Prophet Muhammad
(peace be upon him). He wrote poetry and prose against French
colonialism in 1936. For his contribution to awakening the
consciousness of the people by his writings, he was awarded the
highest state medal by the Syrian government. Thus, his fame
spread at home and abroad. In this article I will try to describe his
brief biography and analyze his poems by mentioning the pure love
that he expressed for his motherland, for the eye-catching nature
and for his beloved ones.
