Abstract

Since about 750 B.C, in the field Arabic literature, the
researchers have debated the (in)authenticity of
romanticism in the poetry of Ayyame Jahiliyyah, in the
poetic portrayal of women in Abbasid period, and in the
love poetry of various poets in different ages. Given this
situation, this article is to evaluate the undercurrent of
romanticism in the poetry of different poets in Saudi
Arabia. Accordingly, the article first illustrates definition,
characteristics, theme, subject matter and content of
romantic poetry. Then, in light of these romantic elements,
it judges Saudi Arabian romantic poetry. At last, it argues
that the Saudi Arabian romantic poetry is unique from any
other romantic poems.
