مكانة المرأة في شعر المتنبي وشوقي: دراسة مقارنة
Abstract
Women have occupied an important position in Arabic poetry
from the pre-Islamic period. All Arab poets both in Jahili and
Islamic periods began their lyric poetry with love for women.
Thus the celebrated poet of Abbasid period al-Mutanabbi and
the greatest poet of modern age Ahmad Shauqi have
presented the context of women in various ways in their
poetry. Al-Mutanabbi didn't believe in the strength of women
and he always discarded lyric poetry composed by other poets
on love for women. He thought that women are inferior to
men in every side, especially in knowledge and dignity. He
never accepted equal rights of women as Ahmad Shauqi. On
the other hand, Shauqi strongly called for freedom of women
and women's education. He always inspired them to be free
from the dominance of men and fought to establish their right
and dignity. Because he believes the development of society
is quite impossible without the enlightenment of women as
they are half of our total population. This article aims at a
comparative study of al-Mutanabbi and Ahmad Shauqi's
attitudes towards women as appeared in their poetry.
