Abstract

Novels and short stories are the most important components of
modern Arabic literature. The endeavours of Nobel Prize winner
Naguib Mahfouz have led the Arabic novels and short stories to
the peak of development. He was born in 1911 and died in Egypt
on 30th August 2006. During his whole span of life he immensely
contributed to Arabic literature especially to novels and short
stories. He wrote about fifty novels and more than a hundred short
stories. So far more than nineteen short stories of Mahfuz have
been published and about half of his novels were converted into
films which gained popularity in the Arab world. Most of his short
stories have been translated into various languages. A new
dimension has begun in modern Arabic literature through the work
of Naguib Mahfouz. The main objective of this article is to throw
light on some aspects of his Novel “Zuqaq Al-Miadaq.”
